Skin Care Products

Skin care is big business — thousands of different products are sold directly to consumers (in department stores, groceries, mass merchandising outlets, etc.) and through professional venues such as medical practices, salons, and spas. From 2006 to 2007, Feedback Research Services' survey findings revealed an increase in the number of medical offices and medical spas that sell skin care products. The following abstracts focus on new products.

Facial Skin Care Options

An article published by ThirdAge.com reviews cosmetic procedure statistics and evaluates four alternatives. The number of Americans who chose injectable and dermal filler cosmetic procedures in 2006 is impressive: 3.1 million were treated with BOTOX® and 1.5 million chose JUVÉDERM®, Restylane, or other fillers. Howard Murad, M.D., believes that the "prescription" for improving skin condition involves four components: Good nutrition, vitamin supplements, daily exercise, and stress reduction. Carole Maggio contends that her "Facercise" program tones facial muscles through exercise. Ancient practices are the basis for "cosmetic acupuncture", which involves insertion of fine needles into specific points on the skin. Combining spa techniques with technology, a supersonic facial delivers anti-aging compounds into the skin using electrical currents or ultrasound waves.
