HYDROTHERAPY
As a healing art, hydrotherapy is widely used throughout Europe. This month, several articles describe exclusive resort spa service packages available throughout the world.
Germany Tourism's "Kneipp Spas And Health Resorts"...
In addition to relaxation and beauty treatments, Germany's hydrotherapy spa resorts offer a kinder and gentler version of Kneipp therapy using hot and cold water. Water-based options include compresses, medicinal herb packs, partial and full baths, and showers that are integrated in a holistic wellness approach that is combined with air, exercise, nutrition, and sunshine.
Guardian Unlimited's "Five Favorite Spas"...
Earlier this month, Guardian Unlimited (United Kingdom) identified several spas that provide body work services. Serenity Spa (Seaham Hall) was highlighted for the 90-minute Santosha (contentment) package, which includes back exfoliation and massage, a mini-facial, chakra balancing, well-being massage, and three-course lunch. The "best" treatments from Ragdale Hall (Leicestershire) are the 40-minute Equilibrium body massage and deep-cleansing 100-minute Kanebo Kai-Kutsurogi facial. Dry Floatation with body brushing, body wrap, and warm water immersion is offered by Aqua Sana Spas (Wiltshire, Nottinghamshire, Cumbria, and Suffolk).
As one of the most famous health spas, Champneys' (Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Leicestershire) treatments are affordably priced. La Stone Therapy is a premium massage that is accomplished with use of hot and cold stones. Another health-oriented spa is Hoar Cross Hall (Staffordshire), which provides Swedana and Vishesh ayurvedic massages.

In 45 spa locations, Hilton Worldwide Resorts has launched 3-night and 7-night vacation packages that emphasize recreational activities and relaxation. Located in the Arabian Peninsula, the Hilton Salalah Resort provides spa treatments and water sports in the Dolphin Health Club. Guests can also explore an archaeological site or the Ayn Razat lakes and natural spring. In Kuwait, the Thalassatherapy Spa offers an Aquamedic pool, saunas, and Turkish baths. A total of 14 new Hilton Worldwide Resorts are scheduled for completion during the next three years, four of which will be located in Asia.
SANIJET's Leadership Summit...
In early May 2004, SANIJET (Coppell TX) held a leadership summit to review commissioned research on the use of hydrotherapy in resort spas. Attendees included members of SANIJET's advisory board, company representatives, and a consultant from SpaTrade.com. Surveys were completed and summarized by Feedback Research Services. In general, hydrotherapy remains somewhat challenging from an operational perspective. Belief in the benefits and promotion of hydrotherapy services can be rewarding: Resort spa guests who try attended bathing often become enthusiastic proponents.
Swedish Study Of Electro-Acupuncture & Hydrotherapy...
A prospective evaluation of electro-acupuncture (EA) and hydrotherapy determined that education and treatment can offer improved health for patients with osteoporosis. Functional assessments were based on the disability rating index (DRI). The visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to evaluate aches and pain. In general, treated patients who received EA and education experienced reduced aches and pain, in comparison with the "patient education alone" group. Similar results were found for patients treated with hydrotherapy and education. Functional activities were also significantly improved, even six months after the last treatment was performed.
